I am a current graduate student at Suffolk University, and it came to my attention that it was a bit difficult to navigate through the University’s library system due to the large load of books that come in and out of the library. Therefore, as a project concept, I implemented a redesign for the Suffolk University Mildred F. Sawyer Library website, in order to create a much more user-friendly system and interface for both the library staff as well as the students.
I designed the website to include easy access to the catalog along with other important information about the library that would be needed by students, faculty or even alumni. I used colors from the Suffolk University brand color palette, to stay true to the brand identity.
I also chose to use tabs and buttons that are visible and provided a smooth navigation. This was all solved after collecting data and user research from the librarians and library directors. After that came the application of the findings through a site map, as well as the initial drafting of the website design through wireframes before implementing the hi-fidelity interface. I also set up a persona to help me navigate through the prototyping steps.
